The Director’s Message

Patricia OKeefe
Papillon Montessori School
As the Director of the Papillon Montessori School I share the belief that children learn best when they are actively engaged, free to explore, and respected as individuals.
The environment and teacher support the child’s natural developmental process rather than imposing a rigid curriculum. The classroom is intentionally designed with accessible materials, organized shelves, and child size furniture to ensure the success of the child. Each item, thoughtfully designed by the teacher, has a built-in control of error fortifying independence. Self-discovery is the best avenue for learning.
Our key goal in our Montessori school aims to develop the whole child. Intellectual ability, social and emotional skills, and importantly independence and self-motivation.
One of the most striking aspects of our school is the peaceful atmosphere. There is a deep sense of respect felt throughout the classroom. By way of “Grace and Courtesy” exercises, the children learn peaceful conflict resolution and the skills that result in a cohesive community.
Multi age grouping allows the youngest child to have mentoring and the older child an opportunity for leadership.
We are consistent with our belief that every experience is a learning experience. Each child has an opportunity to work independently, with a classmate or in a group. They are offered opportunities to lead or to follow, seeking balance that facilitates their personal growth.
The purpose of Montessori education is to foster competent, responsible citizens who are lifelong learners.
Kind regards,
Patricia OKeefe
